Overview

Bharatpur, home to the famous Keoladeo National Park (formerly Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary), is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a paradise for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. This educational excursion offers students an opportunity to explore wildlife, ecology, conservation and the rich natural heritage of India. The park's wetlands support a rich variety of resident and migratory birds, making it an ideal outdoor classroom for students studying Biology, Environmental Science, Geography and Wildlife Conservation.

Best Time to Visit

October to March is the ideal period for a school birding trip because the park becomes particularly attractive for observing migratory birds during the winter season. November to February is best for birdwatching. July to September: The monsoon can bring increased water levels and vegetation, making the wetland ecosystem interesting for ecological study, although birding conditions differ from the winter season. April to June: Hot weather makes extended outdoor field activities less comfortable.

Why Do This Tour? – Benefits to Students

1Real-Life Biology Learning – Students observe birds, plants and ecosystems directly instead of relying only on classroom diagrams.
2Understand Wetland Ecosystems – Students learn how wetlands support birds, fish, amphibians, insects, plants and microorganisms.
3Learn About Bird Migration – Winter visits provide an opportunity to discuss why birds migrate for food, temperature, breeding and seasonal habitat changes.
4Develop Bird Identification Skills – Students can learn to identify birds through shape, size, colour, beak, feet, calls, habitat and behaviour.
5Understand Food Chains – Students can observe relationships such as: Plants → Insects/Fish → Birds → Predators.
6Learn About Biodiversity – The park demonstrates how different species coexist within a shared ecosystem.
7Environmental Conservation – Students understand why wetlands must be protected from pollution, habitat destruction, excessive human disturbance, plastic waste and water contamination.
8Develop Observation & Research Skills – Students can collect simple field observations and prepare a mini nature report after returning to school.
9Encourage Scientific Curiosity – Students are encouraged to ask: Why do birds have different beaks? Why do some birds live near water? Why do birds migrate? How do wetlands support biodiversity?
10Photography & Creative Learning – Students can document their observations through photography, sketching or nature journaling, subject to park rules.
11Outdoor Learning – The park provides an excellent break from classroom learning while maintaining a strong academic focus.
12Responsible Tourism – Students learn practical environmental habits: Do not litter, do not feed wildlife, maintain silence, do not disturb birds, stay on designated routes, respect nature.
